Troubleshooting

Ingredients not showing on my storefront

This is almost always because the Kernl theme block hasn’t been added to your product template yet.

To fix this:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes
  2. Click Customize on your active theme
  3. At the top of the theme editor, make sure you’re on a Product page (not home, collection, etc.)
  4. In the left panel, click Add block or Add section and look for Kernl — Ingredients
  5. Add it and position it where you’d like ingredients to appear
  6. Click Save

If the theme block is already added, check that the product has ingredients assigned — either on the Products page in the Kernl app or via Edit ingredients in the Kernl Ingredients block on the product in Shopify admin.

An ingredient I removed keeps reappearing

Try refreshing the Products page after removing an ingredient. Kernl uses optimistic UI — it removes the ingredient from the display immediately while saving in the background. If the save fails for any reason, the page will revert to show the actual saved state.

If the ingredient consistently reappears after a refresh, please contact support.

The “Assign Ingredients” button is stuck loading

This can happen if a previous save action didn’t complete cleanly. Try refreshing the page — this resets the loading state and you should be able to use the button normally again.

Products are loading slowly

Kernl loads up to 250 products per API request and displays 20 per page, so large catalogues are handled efficiently. If loading feels slow, it may be a temporary issue with Shopify’s API. Try refreshing the page.

If slow loading is consistent, please contact support with details about your store size.

CSV import failed or only some rows imported

Check the message shown when import finishes — it reports how many ingredients were created and how many rows were skipped (duplicates, missing admin title, or plan limit).

Common fixes:

  • Use a .csv file (not .xlsx) with a header row and required admin_title column
  • Keep the file under 100 data rows and 1 MB
  • Remove or rename rows whose admin title already exists in your library
  • If import stopped mid-way, refresh the Ingredients page — some rows may have been saved already

For column names, limits, and duplicate rules, see Importing ingredients from CSV.

I can’t remove all ingredients from a product

Open the Assign Ingredients modal, deselect all selected ingredients so none are highlighted, then click Save Changes. This will clear all ingredients from the product.
